AI-Themed UNIDES Event Held at Çankırı Karatekin University

On May 15–16, 2025, the “Effects of Artificial Intelligence on Society and Technology: A Gateway to the Future” themed UNIDES event was organized by the Statistics and Data Science Student Club of Çankırı Karatekin University. Supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the General Directorate of Youth Services, the two-day event attracted great interest with its academic and cultural aspects.

On the first day of the event, Dr. Ömer Kiraz, Big Data Engineer at the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), gave a presentation titled “Big Data Studies at TÜİK,” followed by Ali Osman Bilgin, Head of the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Group at TÜİK, who presented on “Artificial Intelligence Applications at TÜİK.” In addition, data science expert Samet Kaya and consultant-entrepreneur Fırat Yılmaz shared their valuable insights and experiences on current AI applications with the participants.

The second day featured an Inter-University Artificial Intelligence Debate Competition, which drew significant attention.

In the first debate round, Sinop University faced Ondokuz Mayıs University, with Ondokuz Mayıs University emerging as the winner.

In the second round, Gazi University competed against Çankırı Karatekin University, with Çankırı Karatekin University winning.

In the final round, teams from OMU and ÇAKU went head-to-head. In a closely contested final, Çankırı Karatekin University took first place.

All participating universities created a high-level debate environment with their well-prepared arguments and unique perspectives.
